VAT refunds in the European Union
A company established in one EU country can recover VAT paid in another Member State where it makes no taxable supplies. The procedure is set by Directive 2008/9/EC: the claim is filed online on the tax portal of the country where the company is established, which forwards it to the country of refund.
- Deadline: 30 September of the year following the refund period.
- Minimum amount: €50 for an annual claim, €400 for a quarterly claim.
- Invoices must be in your company's name and show VAT.
- Some countries restrict recovery on certain expenses (accommodation, meals, passenger cars).
GRAMTAX collects your invoices, checks their compliance, prepares and files the claims for each country, then follows the file until payment and answers the authorities' questions.
Do you also drive in France, Belgium or Italy? Diesel excise duties can be refunded too.
